Our hair not only plays a big impact on how we look. but it also plays a big role in how we feel about ourselves. There is a lot of belief that healthy, shiny, good-looking hair is what defines our attractiveness.
This is not really true, but when our hair is not at it’s best, it can affect us negatively. We may feel we are less than attractive and we may also feel less confident. Everyone has a bad hair day from time to time and it’s nothing major. Female hair loss is a big deal that can be unbelievably stressful and it is common especially as we age.
Hair loss and women
While it is more socially acceptable for men to suffer with hair loss, less than over 45% of women retain a full head of hair throughout their life.
Why it is so common?
There are a number reasons that a woman could develop hair loss. It could be from a medical condition like trichotillomania or polycystic ovary syndrome, or it could be a side effect from a medication or from menopause.
As we age, it is common for our hair to thin. In research that has been done on this matter, female pattern hair loss (or androgenetic alopecia) is the most common cause of hair loss in women, and its prevalence increases with age – 12% of women develop some form of hair loss by age 29, 25% by age 49, 41% by 69, and over 50% by the age of 79.
Women with hair loss tend to feel less attractive, less confident and unfortunately, often less happy.
What can be done about female hair loss?
